The overwhelming nature and magnitude of the Xingu and Iriri
rainforest rivers, with their countless arm, water rapids, lakes and
lagoons, and enormous variety of tropical game fish, like the Jaú (Brachyplatystoma
filamentosum), Piranha (Serrasalmus sp), Redtail catfish (phractocephalus
hemioliopterus), Sorubim (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum), Matrinchã (Brycon
sp.), Giant Trahira (Hoplias macrophthalmus), Payara (Hydrolicus
scomberoides), Peacock Bass (Cichla sp.) and many others, will be the
background of an unforgettable fishing adventure.
The offspring of the Xingu River is located between the plateaus
“Serra do Roncador and Serra Formosa” (GPS coordinates S-12º 40’27” ,
W-52º59’12”) about 600 mt above sea level. Has a total extension of
about 2045 km, of which 1815 km are denominated Xingu river.
The hydrographic area of the Xingu river flows, 350 km wide,
for about 1450 km, draining an impressive area of 531.250 square
kilometers, before joining the Amazon River near the small village of
Porto de Moz.
Despite all these impressive datum, the river is not appropriate for
large scale navigation or commercial fishing, mainly due to the
frequently found water rapids. These circumstances, along with the
presence of ecological reservations give the Xingu River outstanding
conditions to be fished for game fish.
The 900 km long Iriri River, flowing down from the plateau “Serra do
Cachimbo” has similar conditions as described above for the Xingu
River which it joins near (GPS coordinates S-03º51’29” , W-52°38’39”
).
These fantastic and virtually unexplored fishing waters are found all
around or close to our recently build lodge.
ACCOMODATIONS The field
camp is located on the margin of the Xingu River close to
the water rapids, offering a fantastic sighting. Accommodations will be in
individual barracks and equipment such as generator, full kitchen,
hygienic facilities, and more will make your staying as pleasant and
comfortable as possible.
FISHING CONDITIONS & TIPS
Due to wet and dry season conditions, we recommend fishing from June
through November. Most diversified fishing can be done in a wide range of
structures, from catfishing in deep waterholes, peacock fishing in lagoons
and river banks, Giant Trahiras in rock structures, to Payara and Bicuda
fishing in wild water. Catching a variety of as many as 12 different kind
of
fish is common in these waters.
Fishing will be done, three
fisherman + pilot, out of aluminum fishing boats.
As for recommending equipment; spinning and casting rods up to 20 lbs with
up to 50 lbs multifilament lines for; Peacock bass, Trahira, Payara, and
Bicuda fishing, when fly fishing is preferred, your equipment for these
fish should be at least # 8. For big catfish however, really heavy
equipment is required.
These recommendations are based on experience, space and playing
conditions, not to be taken as a rule.
